What is The Arts Society?

The Arts Society (TAS) is a leading UK Arts charity that works to advance decorative and fine arts education and appreciation, alongside promoting the preservation of artistic heritage. NADFAS supports a network of over 360 local Societies across the country. In addition, it supports a number of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies in mainland Europe, and Australasia. Its origins lie in the Chiltern Antiques Society founded by Patricia Fay in 1965. In 1968 eleven societies came together to form the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies (NADFAS). Charitable status was granted in 1972.

TAS activities incorporate the study of the history, social history, techniques and materials, design and manufacture and collections of: architecture, painting, prints, sculpture, textiles, furniture, furnishings, costume, glass and ceramics, enamel, metalwork, garden design and installation art; as well as the lives and influences of the artist, architects, craftsmen and patrons involved. Music, theatre and literature can play an important part in illustrating art.
